Therapy for Chronic Pain and Chronic Illness

What can I expect in therapy for chronic pain or illness?

What you can expect from therapy is a warm and understanding person who is specially trained to help you move beyond your pain or illness and into a life where you are not at war with your body. The course of treatment for chronic pain typically looks like this:

You are the expert on your pain or illness and it is not “all in your head.” We will spend the first several sessions history taking and getting to know each other. Then, I will help you conceptualize your chronic pain in a way (using non-medical language) that maybe you haven’t heard before. Next, we work to UnPain your brain. After that, we reduce anxiety and fear surrounding pain. Last, we process any underlying or co-existing conditions or issues.

Sounds good, but how do we do this?

Excellent question. We do this by using an integrative approach that blends Pain Reprocessing Therapy, mindfulness, and EMDR. We come up with a plan that is unique to you and we work together to ensure your treatment is successful.

OK, but does it actually work?

Yes! The current research supports these methods to reduce chronic pain and improve quality of life.
